SpeedInfo Better traffic information is on the way. Guys at SpeedInfo are working on low-cost traffic speed sensors, that will help drivers better plan their routes and eventually shorten their travelling time. As a side benefit, this will help emergency vehicles like police, firetrucks and ambulances in finding the least time consuming route and serve the community in a better way.

The solar-powered sensors are mounted on the side of the roads, supporting wireless communication, years of maintenance-free build and battery backup. The good part of the data generated is that it will be distributed to a number of devices including HD radios, Navigation systems and even cellphones. So, besides supplying critical data to authorities to better manage traffic, they will also transmit real time data to end-user.

VentureBeat reports that SpeedInfo has just received a 3rd round funding of 775K$, which brings the total inflow of venture capital to somewhere in 7M$.

They already have partnered with traffic data publisher TrafficGauge, which will ease the distribution side of the equation for SpeedInfo.
