Your analysis is made on incomplete information: look at the stock market, do you think people just sit there and watch the stock price all day waiting for it to reach a certain price before placing a sell order? Of course they don't.
I know Swoopo does not offer such a thing as limit orders - their bidbutler does not count.
Good news: I am developing a software that allows bidders to set up a strategy and then let a bot implement it - no need to sit and waste hours clicking on Swoopo.

What about other auction sites? There's truly unique and innovative sites out there so I wouldn't go so far as to say all pay-to-bid auctions are a waste of time. Consider PriceDrip.com, that follows a more conventional auction format (i.e., whoever bids the most wins). You still have to pay to bid, but at least they took away the addictive gambling aspect of it and made it more of a legitimate way to score cheap merch!
